Professional rally driver Ken Block, co-founder of Hoonigan and DC Shoes who revolutionized extreme sports marketing and racing filmmaking, died Monday in a snowmobile accident near his Utah home. He is 55 years old.

Hoonigan Industries confirmed Block's death in a statement posted on its social media channels.

"It is with great regret that we can confirm that Ken Block died today in a snowmobile accident," the statement said. "Ken was a visionary, pioneer and icon. Most importantly, a father and husband. He will be Unbelievably missed."

Block co-founded skateboard brand DC Shoes in 1984. After selling the company in 2004, Block went from marketing director to one of the biggest names in racing. After just five years behind the wheel of rally cars, he was a podium threat at both World Rally and Rally America, and a five-time X Games medalist in rallying.

In 2008, Block posted the first of 10 Gymkhana videos on YouTube
